Heading for Christmas!

Heading for Christmas!
Maureen Jennings

It seems that we are always heading for something.

However, Christmas is one of those times that brings out the best and the worst in us. Already we are getting emails to inform us when businesses are closing over Christmas. We seem to be a society obsessed with closing over Christmas.

Of course, it is our summer holiday, and it is quite a good time to take a decent break from the endless demands of running a business.

However, the run up to Christmas is a very exhausting time, as clients suddenly want a new curtain here or a new blind there, and also decide to recover whatever is looking a little tatty.

This Christmas I am determined to be more organised than before and make sure there is a little bit of planning ahead of time. My usual way of dealing with Christmas is to work like crazy until about three days before Christmas and suddenly decide what I should buy each person, what needs to be made as far as food for the Christmas dinner is concerned, and how I should decorate the table. Well, of course, there is never enough time to decorate the table, so the old trusted Christmas decorations get used year after year and each year I promise myself that I will make more of an effort next year. That time is upon me. Oh my goodness!

However, the beach is not my favourite place and I would much prefer spending time at wine farms, botanical gardens or having a simple braai (barbeque) with friends

Even picnics at the seaside are fun, but not on the sand! So this year I will make the arrangements ahead of time and make sure we do all our favourite things at that time.

Let's keep the spirit of goodwill alive this year and make sure that our relationships are all about loving and caring.
